  • NSA/CSS EPL-Listed Degaussing
  • Witnessed On-Site Destruction Available
  • CMMC Level 2 & 3 Supporting Documentation

Government ITAD Compliance Requirements

Government agencies and defense contractors must comply with multiple data destruction standards when retiring IT equipment. Phoenix ITAD's certified processes satisfy all major government compliance frameworks.

DoD 5220.22-M

The Department of Defense standard for sanitizing classified and unclassified data on electronic media. Phoenix ITAD performs DoD 5220.22-M compliant multi-pass overwrite and physical destruction for all government IT equipment. Certificates of Destruction reference the specific DoD sanitization method applied.

FISMA

The Federal Information Security Modernization Act requires federal agencies and contractors to implement information security programs including secure disposition of IT assets. Phoenix ITAD provides FISMA-compliant ITAD with documented chain-of-custody, certified data destruction, and audit-ready reporting.

CMMC (Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification)

CMMC requires defense contractors to demonstrate cybersecurity practices including secure media disposal. Phoenix ITAD's certified data destruction processes support CMMC Level 2 and Level 3 requirements for controlled unclassified information (CUI) destruction.

Destruction Methods

NSA-Approved Destruction Methods

Phoenix ITAD provides three NSA-approved data destruction methods for government and defense clients. Each method meets or exceeds requirements for classified, CUI, and sensitive government data.

NSA/CSS EPL-Listed Degaussing

Phoenix ITAD uses NSA/CSS Evaluated Products List (EPL) approved degaussers rated for Top Secret data. NSA-approved degaussing permanently disrupts the magnetic field of hard drives and tapes, making data recovery impossible by any known method. Degaussing is required for classified magnetic media that cannot be physically destroyed on-site.

NSA-Approved Physical Shredding

Phoenix ITAD's industrial shredders reduce hard drives, SSDs, tapes, and optical media to particles meeting NSA/CSS Media Destruction Guidance standards. Physical shredding is the most secure destruction method and is required for classified SSD media where degaussing is ineffective.

Witnessed Destruction

Phoenix ITAD provides client-witnessed destruction for government agencies and defense contractors requiring visual verification. Government security officers observe every drive destroyed. Same-day Certificates of Destruction are issued on-site with serial number documentation.

Defense Contractors

Defense Contractor ITAD

Defense contractors handling Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) must demonstrate compliant IT asset disposition as part of CMMC assessments and DFARS (877) 321-4823 requirements. Phoenix ITAD provides the certified data destruction and documentation that defense contractors need to pass audits and maintain their security clearances.

Phoenix ITAD's defense contractor ITAD service includes witnessed destruction where your Facility Security Officer (FSO) observes every drive destroyed, immediate Certificates of Destruction issued same-day with serial number documentation, and complete chain-of-custody records from pickup to final destruction.

All ITAR-controlled materials are processed domestically at Phoenix ITAD's certified facility in Scottsdale, Arizona. No equipment or data is exported or handled by unauthorized personnel under any circumstances.
